About Dave West

The background of actor, writer and director Dave West dates back to when he took his first acting class. His talent shone early when he won Best Actor in the American College Theater Festival with his performance of Griever in the Craig Lucas play, Blue Window, and was nominated for the prestigious Irene Ryan acting award.

His theatre background includes acting and directing theatre in Arizona, Los Angeles and Off-Broadway in New York.

After attending New York’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts, West’s acting relocated him to Los Angeles where he acted and produced several theatrical plays and showcases as well as pounding the pavement auditioning for film and television. Highlights from this period include performing with Liza Minnelli and Shirley MacLaine inThe Westside Waltz directed by Academy Award winner Ernest Thompson, and acting in the award-winning indie feature BachelorMan (winner of 18 international film festival awards) and in God’s Lonely Man (debuted in Sundance in 1995).

After years as an actor and seeking to expand his opportunities, West made the switch to the other side of the camera. He learned everything from mixing audio and shooting camera to writing and producing, all the while trying to achieve his ultimate goal, directing.

He co-wrote, produced and starred in Day Guy, an independent television sitcom pilot.  His first effort at directing was the comedic short Puddlejumper, which screened in over 70 festivals in seven countries and winning multiple festival awards. His second short, The Do Over extensively traveled the international film festival circuit.

In addition to playing the part of Artie Spires, he produced and directed the “Behind the Scenes” for BachelorMan.  This lead to commercial directing and directing the web series On the Verge of a Wigout for Warner Brothers.

West directed the music video Til Your Boots Are Dirty for country music artist Stacy Burk staring Dancing With The Stars alumn Maks Chmerkovskiy and the video Buttons starring Dick Van Dyke.

West and his production team at Sandbox Pictures are in financial negotiations for the feature film The Pick Up, which West co-wrote.  Sandbox Pictures is also in the process of optioning the last written work by Ben-Hur screenwriter Karl Tunberg and developing the book The Art and the Way.

West can currently be seen as the spokesman in a series of commercials for the Hennig-Olsen frozen yogurt and sorbet,Dugg.
